The light enlightens both the subject and the photographer
I started with photography as a boy when I found an old broken box-camera in a warehouse. I went up and down the streets pretending to be a photographer and experimenting with my first compositions (with the undeniable advantage of not having to use true and expensive films for camera). Some time later my mother gave me an old bellows-type Ferrania and with that I started doing my first real shots. Since then it's been a while and technology has made great strides and that's why billions of images are produced every day, that says a lot about a fact, that still today, as in the days of my Ferrania, photography is the most effective tool for telling stories.
In photography I apply just one rule "knowing how to look at things". Enjoy!
Il soggetto, il fotografo e la luce che illumina entrambi
Ho iniziato da ragazzo quando trovai in un magazzino una vecchia box camera non funzionante. Andavo su e giù per le strada fingendomi fotografo e sperimentando le mie prime composizioni (con l'indubbio vantaggio di non dover comprare costose pellicole). Qualche tempo dopo mia madre mi regalò una vecchia Ferrania a soffietto e con quella ho iniziato a fare i miei primi veri scatti. Da allora ne è passato di tempo e la tecnologia ha fatto passi da gigante ed è per questo che ogni giorno vengono prodotte miliardi di immagini, questo dice molto su un fatto, che ancora oggi, come ai tempi della mia Ferrania, la fotografia è lo strumento più efficace per raccontare una storia.
Nella fotografia applico una sola regola "saper guardare le cose".

Federico Gentili è un fotografo italiano nato in Umbria nel 1961.
